How to Clean Your Airpods case

AirPods find themselves in all kinds of messy situations. In our pockets, the top of random surfaces, on mysterious journeys through our bags, and beyond. Not to mention they love to gather a little bit of wax that they find inside our ears!

When it comes to cleaning your AirPods, here are some tips on how to use appropriate cleaning products and methods to keep them sanitized and safe

How to clean the outside of your AirPods case

When it comes to cleaning the outside of your case, different products will be called for depending on how much build-up you’re dealing with. For most situations, you’ll want to use a dry cloth, microfiber preferred if you have one, to wipe down the exterior. If you’re dealing with more grime and stains, slightly dampen the cloth and use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol, but make sure it’s not very much*.

*Your AirPods and their case are not resistant to liquids, so you’ll want to make sure not to get any fluid in the charging ports or on the AirPods themselves.

Using a cotton swab is a safe and effective way to clean the inside of your case of any build-up or dirt that found a way to gather inside. Giving you more accuracy and precision for cleaning, you can dampen the cotton swab if necessary but remember that your case isn’t water resistant, so it shouldn’t be dripping wet! If you have more difficult dirt, use a very small amount of isopropyl alcohol on the swab.

For smaller cracks and edges in the case, particularly around the lid, you can use a toothpick, a toothbrush or a sticky tack to work through the waxy buildup and collect grime. Be gentle, don’t apply too much pressure, and take your time!

Small wireless headphones like AirPods can get a little yucky, collecting dirt and wax as you go about your life. Cleaning the inner speaker correctly is important, so we recommend using something soft like a toothbrush to gently wipe away anything that has collected in the grilles. You can use a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab again for anything dried-on, but remember to be very careful not to get any liquid near to the speaker.

Tah-dah! You’ve cleaned your AirPods and they’re ready again for that solo dance party, podcast marathon, or work from home zoom chat.
